Fillings

If you have tooth decay or damage, the dentists at The Avenue Dental Centre in Windsor offer bonded (white) and amalgam (silver) dental fillings to repair it!

Why do I need a filling?

A filling may be necessary if decay needs to be removed from a tooth, if a filling needs to be replaced, or if a tooth has cracked or been damaged. If you have a cavity, you may be a candidate for a filling.

What is a bonded filling for a cavity?

A bonded filling, also known as a “white filling”, is a filling that is made of a composite resin and is similar in colour to your teeth.

This type of filling blends in more naturally with your teeth in contrast to traditional silver amalgam fillings for filling cavities.

When is a bonded filling the best choice for a cavity?

A bonded filling is the best choice when the cavity to be filled covers only a small area and is not exposed to a lot of force.

If the cavity to be filled covers a large area or is on a molar and you grind your teeth, a bonded filling may not be the best option.

Our experienced and caring team will help you to decide if a bonded filling is the best choice for you.

What will happen at my appointment?

If a new cavity has been discovered that needs filling, our skilled team will begin by placing a local anaesthetic to the area. Once the anaesthetic has taken effect, we will carefully remove all decay from the tooth, using very precise instruments.

After the decay is completely removed from the tooth, we will prepare the tooth for the filling by etching the surface of the tooth. This will allow the filling to bond completely to the surface of the tooth. Once the filling is bonded to the tooth, we will complete the procedure by polishing the surface of the filling so that the texture is similar to the surface of your tooth.

What can I expect after my bonded filling is placed?

After the local anaesthetic wears off, most patients will not notice anything out of the ordinary. You can eat on the bonded filling immediately. If you have any questions about bonded fillings, cavities or any other dental procedure, contact our knowledgeable team at The Avenue Dental Centre.
